The book which comes with the product stinks. (This is in part because I am dumb when it comes to this type of product.) The serial # which is required when you register the product is "hidden" deep within the "guts" of the product. I purchased this becauese of the Consumer Reports write up on it. I hope I will progress in my knowledge to use it and all of its functions.

I am very happy with the printer/fax/copier. Easy to use and easy to set up.

I am no techie, however, I would consider myself somewhat tech savvy. This printer is the absolute worst of the worst. The first I ordered came, I followed instruction and was treated to a terribly loud clicking/grinding noise in the interior. A long phone call to Canon tech support ended once they heard the sounds emanating from the printer and told me to return the item if possible.

The second printer I received was in working order.

I have used several types of printers over the years. I have never had problems with any of them I couldn't fix with a quick glance through their troubleshooting guide, or a call to tech support.

A list of my problems:

Installation takes FOREVER.

Still cannot wirelessly print although I have followed their meager instructions.

Their product manual is incomplete. I have had errors pop up that are not listed.

It has now suddenly stopped printing. Their troubleshooting guide recommends to make sure drivers are updated, and the help ends there. I did so and received an error message, that the drivers couldn't be installed.

I suppose I am spoiled, being used to a more intelligent tech support system, one that might scan my computer and tell me the drivers that I am missing. Instead, I have bungled around and around. Every time you have to uninstall and reinstall the driver software takes forever! I still have not been able to print wirelessly, and I purchased the bluetooth for the printer. I have a toddler running around and I simply do not have the patience nor the time to sit and configure the damn printer for the 17th time. I wish I had never purchased this product and would like to caution anyone who wants a simple printer to plug in and work, this is NOT the printer for you!

In fact, I am in the midst of trying to troubleshoot it one more time before I take a sledgehammer to it. I stopped long enough to catch my breath and post this review. I feel like crying. Unless you have masochistic tendencies, BEWARE!

I bought this all-in-one printer in August 08 and has been very please with its performance. The set up was extremely easy. I connect the printer through a print server with my home wireless network. It connects easily with the 3 Mac and my laptop PC without a problem. Just follow the instructions on the quick setup and you are done. The printer is fast, does not take long to warm up. The feature that I love is the ability to scan documents and send them to any computer connected to the network. The scanned photos come out gorgeous, fast. Very pleased with this printer, will recommend it 100%.

My use of MX850 has been very satisfying because of its excellence in printing both photos and text and its providing good faxing and scanning capablity.
