My current favorite of all the iPods!
Of course, everyone knows that whenever you buy an iPod, soon after the geniuses at Apple will unleash another one which is better than yours. Even after seeing the 4th-gen nanos, I still think that this is the best iPod that Apple has made so far. It is basically all of the good things from every other one so far packed into the 3rd-gen nano, which is this one. It is very easy to use, for those of you who aren't familiar with iPods. It is very simple, and to the point. The lists of songs, artists, albums, genres, etc. are very organized and in a clear, easy-to-read font. The click wheel, I noticed, is a bit less sensitive than the 1st and 2nd-gen nanos. Unlike the first nanos, this one has the capacity for many types of video such as tv shows, movies and more. And the 8 GB (up to 2,000 songs) is just enough for me. I absolutely love the color blue also. The overall design of it is very appealing, and similar to the iPod classic. The battery life lasts a lot longer, usually about 24 hours when you first get it. One thing that I really like is the search, where you can search for anything on your iPod, like songs or albums. There are also several built-in games, or you could buy more on iTunes. I have had this iPod for almost a year and I am very happy with it. It is very durable, and it was able to hold up for several months until I got a good case for it. I would say to get this iPod if you want a reasonable price, a good amount of media on it, and all the basic features.

Good for music, useless for podcasts
I bought this Nano to primarily listen to podcasts. When you listen to podcasts you usually, but not always, want to delete them after listening to them either in full or part way through if the podcast is not worth listening to.

The problem is that their isn't a way to delete the podcast tracks until you connect the Nano to a PC. It's an unbelievably bad omission. Here are the problems -

If you listen to the entire track, it will replace it with a later podcast in the series. But if you only listen to a piece of it, for some reason it doesn't.

And, even worse, if you haven't listened to it when the next podcast in the series comes out, it will still delete it without you having heard a word!

And here's the worst point... let's say that if you have 20 podcasts on the Nano, the listened to podcast is still available for listening, so if you jump around from track to track, you'll keep stumbling over the same podcast until you connect it to a PC.

Apple should have built in a single button delete, so if you hold a button down for a while while a track is playing it will DELETE it and start playing the next.

What was Apple thinking when they designed it? No much.

A Great iPod for Someone With a Medium Sized Music Collection
The 3rd Generation iPod Nano is my third iPod--my first one was a 4G iPod Classic (20GB) and then I got a 2G 2GB iPod shuffle. I have had the 3G iPod Nano for about a year and I love it--I recently got an iPhone 3G but I'm still carrying around my Nano because it does one thing really well--it is an excellent mp3 player. The Nano is small, lightweight, and easy to hold in my hand. It is not too bulky to slip into my pocket on the go like my iPhone or my previous iPod classic is. It's also nice that it has a screen (unlike the shuffle) which makes it easier to select music to listen to. And it's perfect for someone with a medium sized music collection like me--I can still carry around most of my music without having to worry about running out of space.

I would not recommend the Nano for video viewing or games, because its screen is very small and hard to see. I don't find the click wheel a very satisfying controller for games--the touch screen on an iPod Touch or and iPhone is much more satisfying. But as a music player the Nano is great--I hope to be carrying mine well into the future.
