Fax Machine
It is a good, all around, basic fax machine.
We use its sister at work (very high volume) and I expect the same quality for many years here at home.
I couldn't be happier.

Limited use with Comcast phone network
Good value, but all features and commands are not available when used with the Comcast phone network. For example, when the machine is set up for TEL mode (faxes are rarely received), and a fax tone is heard on the phone line, the remote command *9* will not switch the machine to the FAX mode to receive it. Neither will the START command at the machine work. The RCV button must be used to switch from TEL to FAX. This is inconvenient when one is remote from the machine. I have confirmed this problem with HP service. 2008-11-09
Slick and easy
Very easy to install (and use). Replaced a unit, which after many years of service said 'enough already' and quit. Print, speed, and ease of use superior in every aspect. 2008-10-24
Great for occasional use!
The HP 640 inkjet Fax Machine is a nice compact, easy to use product. It is great for occasional use if you have a business and want to use it once a week or so. Also the price is right!
I use it in my business but only occasionally, three or 4 times a month tops and this is exactly what it's good for.
What it is not? It is not a high quality, last a real long time, heavy duty fax machine. So if that's what you need this isn't your product. Additionally, I wouldn't recommend this to be used as a telephone, the receiver is very flimsy, weighs maybe an ounce or two and the sound quality is poor.
That said, I recommend the fax portion of this product highly for occasional use and light duty.
