1 out of 2 Broken
I brought 2 of these players on 12/5/2008 as gifts for the grand children.
Both worked well initially and, for the price, I can not fault the image quality (once I worked out how to get the protective plastic film off the screen) or sound quality (when playing DVDs - have not used the USB/SD slots).
After about 1 weeks use, one of the players no longer reads DVDs (it will play CDs OK). When you put a DVD in the machine, it spins up and after about 30 seconds says 'no disk'.
I sent an email to Coby tech support and ater 2 days they replied and said it was probably defective. Problem with their warranty support is that you have pay to ship the player to them and enclose a Money Order (not a check) for $16 so they can ship it back. So it costs you $20-$30 to get them to replace a defective product that only cost $80 in the first place.
Luckily, Amazon would take it back and they pay for the postage!
The second unit we bought is still working properly.
In short, a good unit when it is working. Looks like poor quality control in manufacture and poor technical support.

Portable DVD
The devise is compatible with all media types as declared. The only problem, that after 3 month of use is started to show strange lines and "pausing" while playing. I'm writing letter to the manufacturer right now. 2009-01-06

Fantastic little DVD player - lots of features!!!
We got this DVD for our 2 year old for the car as we had some long car trips to do over Christmas and it works great.
The volume was just perfect for her, although you can boost it using some external devices if necessary, but we didn't think it was, I could even hear it while I was driving so it has plenty of volume.
The controls are easy to use, and it even has a remote, but we didn't take that with us since we figured we'd lose it.
It comes with a mounting bag, which sounds simple but is way more complicated than expected and has a few issues I will bring up here:
1) Doesn't mount easily to car seat back and instructions are confusing to me.
2) The DVD player controls are folded down and therefore pointed towards the back of the seat with the screen outwards (like a tablet PC to look at) - this means you can't use the swivel for the screen at all and you can't get a DVD in and out easily either.
For this reason, I suggest a trip to Walmart (etc) to buy a case logic DVD player case - we got one for $10 for an 8 inch player - it has room for a few DVD's too and the DVD player sits open at a right angle so you can get the disks in and out and operate the controls etc.
Other neat features are you can put in a camera SD card and look at photos and movies on the screen, and it has DIVX etc, which could be useful for some people.
This Coby player was almost the same price as many of the other Coby players but you really do need to read the features section to make sure it has everything you want on it - some other 7 inch players from Coby don't have as many features to use.
I highly recommend this to any parent who is planning to go on a car journey - we traveled for 7 hours and our daughter was entertained for half the time and asleep the rest of the time.
This player comes with the mounting bag (see above for review) and power adapter AND the car adapter too - well worth the money and we got free 3 day shipping too.

Bright Screen Keep it, Dark Screen Send it Back
OK this is a great Player, But here is the deal. I bought one of these in September Had a Dark Screen, so I wasn't happy I sent it Back, Got one with a Bright Crisp Screen. IT IS FANTASTIC. NO PROBS WHATSOEVER.. I wanted a 2nd unit I have recieved 4 so far ALL DARK non CRISP SCREENS... I have sent them all back. I don't know why Coby has gone with a cheaper Crappy Screen but they did. At first I thought they came from a bad lot but I decided to try different vendors, guess what all the same... Here is the deal if you got one with a dark screen, the screen will burn out within 6 months if not sooner.I actully had one go within 3 hours after recieving the unit. If you have a unit that has a bright sharp screen You got old stock and propbably won't have any problems, unless you drop it. 2009-01-01
